Narration FAQ
Narration FAQ
Everything you need to know about adding voice, video, and uploaded narration to your Simplebooklet pages.
General Questions
What types of narration can I add to my Simplebooklet?
Simplebooklet supports three narration formats:
- Voice Only — record audio directly in your browser
- Video — record video and audio using your camera and microphone
- Upload — use a pre-recorded audio (MP3, WAV) or video (MP4) file
You can also invite a guest narrator to record on your behalf.
Can I add narration to every page?
Yes. You can add a separate narration to each page in your Simplebooklet. Each page stores its own recording independently, so you can narrate all pages, just a few, or only one.
Do my viewers need an account or plugin to hear narration?
No. Narration plays directly in the viewer's browser with no account, download, or plugin required.
Can I have both voice and video narration on the same page?
No. Each page supports one narration at a time — either voice only or video. You can choose the format that best fits your content on a page-by-page basis.
Recording Questions
How long can my narration be?
- Voice narration — up to 120 seconds per page
- Video narration — up to 60 seconds per page
Uploaded audio and video files may have different limits depending on your plan.
What microphone or camera should I use?
Any microphone or camera connected to your device will work. You can select your preferred device using the Select Mic or Select Mic/Camera dropdown at the bottom of the narration drawer before you begin recording.
What browser works best for recording narration?
Simplebooklet narration is supported across modern browsers. We recommend Google Chrome for the best recording experience. Whichever browser you use, make sure it has permission to access your microphone and camera when prompted.
What is the Teleprompt and can viewers see it?
The Teleprompt is a personal notes panel inside the narration drawer. You can use it to keep talking points, reminders, or a full script visible while you record. **Only you can see your
Teleprompt** — it is never visible to your audience.
Can I redo a recording I'm not happy with?
Yes. After recording, you can click Redo to discard the take and record again before saving. Once you click Save Recording, the narration is added to the page, but you can
always re-record by opening the narration drawer and recording a new version.
Uploading Questions
What file types can I upload for narration?
- Audio — MP3 or WAV (automatically sets the page to Voice Only Narration)
- Video — MP4 recommended (automatically sets the page to Video Narration)
The maximum file size for uploads is 10 MB.
Can I replace an uploaded file later?
Yes. Open the Record drawer, switch to the Upload tab, and select a new file. Your narration will update instantly.
Headshot Questions
What is the headshot feature and where does it appear?
A headshot is an optional photo you can attach to your voice narration. It appears beside the audio playback bar on the page, giving your narration a more personal and professional look.
How do I add or change my headshot?
Open the Record drawer, go to the Voice Only Narration section, and click the Headshot button. You can upload a new photo or choose one from your library. To remove it, click your current headshot and select Remove.
Guest Narrator Questions
Can someone else narrate my Simplebooklet?
Yes. Use the Invite feature in the Record tab to generate a link you can share with a guest narrator. You control whether they can narrate a single page or your entire booklet.
How do I review and approve a guest narration?
Open the Record tab and click Invite. Switch to the Submissions tab to play, approve, or reject any submitted recordings. Approved narrations become active on the page immediately.
Can I disable the invitation link after sharing it?
Yes. In the Invite drawer, click Disable Link at any time to prevent the link from being used.
Playback & Settings Questions
Will my narration play automatically for viewers?
By default, narration does not autoplay. You can change this in Settings inside the Record tab:
- Autoplay On Page Open — plays every time the page loads
- Autoplay First View Only — plays only the first time the viewer opens that page
Can narration automatically advance to the next page?
Yes. Enable Turn Page On Finish in narration Settings. When the narration ends, the booklet will automatically flip to the next page.
How do I delete a narration?
In the left-hand toolbar of the Record tab, click Delete. Play the recording to confirm it's the correct one, then select Delete Recording and confirm when prompted.
How Narration Supports the Reader's Journey
Narration touches every stage of the Reader's Journey — from Awareness (introducing who you are and what your content covers) to Attention (keeping viewers focused) to Immersion (building a deeper personal connection) to Action(giving your audience the confidence to respond). Well-crafted narration is one of the most effective ways to guide readers from first impression to final decision.
