Simplebooklet Accessibility & WCAG Compliance
Simplebooklet Accessibility & WCAG Compliance
Simplebooklet is committed to making our platform usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. This article explains the accessibility standards we follow, what's covered, and how to request our full conformance report.
Standards We Follow
Simplebooklet has been evaluated against WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard referenced by:
- The U.S. Department of Justice for ADA Title II compliance (state and local government)
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (federal agencies and federally funded programs)
- Accessibility laws in the EU, Canada, Australia, and other jurisdictions
The majority of our platform fully meets these criteria. A small number of criteria are partially supported, primarily due to the nature of our user-generated content platform, and we are actively working to close those gaps.
Our Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT)
We publish an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) in the VPAT® 2.4 WCAG Edition format. This report documents our conformance status against every WCAG 2.1 Level A and Level AA success criterion.
Report date: March 2026

How We Tested
- Manual keyboard-only navigation testing in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari
- Screen reader testing with NVDA + Chrome (Windows) and VoiceOver + Safari (macOS/iOS)
- Automated scanning with Axe and WAVE
- Color contrast analysis via the WebAIM Contrast Checker
- Expert review against the W3C's published WCAG 2.1 guidelines
Summary of Conformance
What Fully Supports WCAG 2.1 AA
The majority of Simplebooklet's platform meets WCAG 2.1 criteria without known defects, including:
- Keyboard navigation — Core navigation, account management, and booklet page navigation are fully keyboard accessible.
- Screen reader compatibility — The editor and viewer use semantic HTML, proper heading hierarchy, and ARIA landmark roles (main, nav, header, footer).
- Color contrast — The default platform UI meets the 4.5:1 minimum contrast ratio for normal text and 3:1 for large text and UI components.
- Focus management — All interactive elements display a visible focus indicator; keyboard focus is never trapped without an escape path.
- Text resizing — The platform supports up to 200% browser zoom without loss of content or functionality.
- Error handling — Form errors are clearly identified in text, associated with the relevant field, and include correction suggestions.
- Status messages — Save confirmations, upload progress, and error notifications are announced by screen readers via ARIA live regions.
- Consistent navigation — Menus, toolbars, and navigation elements appear in consistent locations across all platform pages.
Areas of Partial Support
User-generated content Simplebooklet is a content creation platform. Some criteria — such as alternative text for images, captions for embedded video, and color contrast in custom booklet themes — depend on choices made by content authors. Simplebooklet provides all the necessary tools and fields for authors to meet these criteria and recommends following WCAG 2.1 AA best practices when creating content.
Advanced editor features Some complex drag-and-drop operations in the editor currently require a mouse. Keyboard-equivalent alternatives are provided for the majority of these functions, and we are actively improving full keyboard access across all editor tools. Some custom editor toolbar components are also being updated with complete ARIA attributes.
Not Applicable
Several criteria do not apply to Simplebooklet: we do not offer live audio/video streaming, impose session time limits, or produce synchronized media (all embedded video comes from third-party platforms like YouTube or Vimeo).
Tips for Content Authors
Because Simplebooklet is a publishing platform, some accessibility depends on how you build your booklets. To make your published content as accessible as possible:
- Add alt text to every image using the Alt Text field in the image editor
- Enable captions on any embedded YouTube or Vimeo videos before embedding
- Ensure sufficient color contrast when choosing custom theme colors
- Use descriptive link text rather than "click here" or bare URLs
Ongoing Commitment
We treat accessibility as an ongoing priority. Our conformance report is updated as the platform evolves. If you encounter an accessibility barrier — whether in the editor, the viewer, or your published booklets — please let us know.
