Video FAQ
Video FAQ
Everything you need to know about adding and managing video in your Simplebooklet.
General Questions
What are the different ways I can add video to my Simplebooklet?
Simplebooklet gives you three ways to add video directly to a page, plus two ways to trigger video interactively:
- Embed — paste a URL from YouTube, Vimeo, or Google Drive. Available on all plans.
- Upload — upload a video file directly from your device for a fully branded, customisable experience. Available on Pro and Business plans.
- Pexels — search and add license-free stock video built directly into the editor. Available on all plans.
- Video Button — a visible, labelled button that plays a video in a lightbox when clicked. Available on all plans.
- Video Hotspot — an invisible clickable area that triggers a video when clicked. Available on all plans.
What is the difference between embedding and uploading a video?
Embedding links to a video hosted on an external platform like YouTube or Vimeo. It's quick and works with content you already have online, but the video will display with that platform's branding and controls.
Uploading places your video directly inside Simplebooklet. There's no external branding, no recommended videos appearing after playback ends, and you get full control over how the video behaves — including autoplay, muting, looping, and hiding the playbar.
Do viewers need an account or plugin to watch videos?
No. Videos play directly in the viewer's browser with no account, download, or plugin required.
Uploading Videos
What file formats are supported for uploading?
Supported formats are MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, MKV, and WEBM.
What is the maximum file size for uploaded videos?
- Pro plans — up to 20 MB per video
- Business plans — up to 50 MB per video
What customisation settings are available for uploaded videos?
- Autoplay on Open — plays automatically when the page loads
- Muted Audio — plays without sound by default
- Hide Video Playbar — removes the video controls for a cleaner look
- Loop Video — plays the video on repeat continuously
These settings are only available for uploaded videos, not embedded ones.
Can I resize and reposition an uploaded video on the page?
Yes. Click on the video after adding it to open the Element Editor. Drag it to reposition it and use the handles to resize it anywhere on the page.
Embedding Videos
What platforms can I embed video from?
You can embed videos from YouTube, Vimeo, and Google Drive by pasting the video URL.
Will embedded videos show external branding?
Yes. Embedded videos display the branding and controls of the platform they're hosted on — for example, the YouTube logo and related video suggestions. If you want a clean, brand-consistent experience, upload your video instead.
Pexels — License-Free Video
What is Pexels and how do I access it?
Pexels is a platform offering thousands of free, high-quality, license-free videos. It's built directly into Simplebooklet — no account or subscription required. In the Edit tab, click the Video button, select On Page, then choose Search to browse the Pexels library.
Are Pexels videos free to use?
Yes. All videos available through the Pexels integration are free to use with no attribution required.
Can I filter Pexels videos by orientation?
Yes. You can filter results by Landscape, Portrait, or Square to find the right format for your page layout.
Can I preview a Pexels video before adding it?
Yes. Click the eye icon on any result to preview the video before adding it to your booklet.
Video Buttons & Video Hotspots
What is the difference between a Video Button and a Video Hotspot?
A Video Button is a visible, labelled element on your page. Your audience can clearly see it and know that clicking it will play a video. Use this when you want the interaction to be obvious and the call to action to be explicit — for example, "Watch the Demo" or "See It In Action."
A Video Hotspot is invisible. It's a clickable area placed over your existing content that triggers a video when clicked. Use this when you want seamless interactivity without adding a visible element to your design.
Can I use embedded and uploaded video with both buttons and hotspots?
Yes. Both Video Buttons and Video Hotspots support the Embed option (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive) and the Upload option. Uploaded videos also include the full suite of customisation settings — autoplay, mute, loop, and hide playbar.
GIFs
Should I use a GIF or a video for animated content?
GIFs are a simple way to add short looping animations to your pages and are uploaded through the Images tool. They work well for brief, lightweight motion effects.
However, GIF files are large relative to what they deliver. If your booklet feels slow to load, a GIF is often the cause. In those cases, converting your GIF to an MP4 and uploading it as a video will give you the same looping effect at a significantly smaller file size — and a much smoother experience for your audience.
How Video Supports the Reader's Journey
Video accelerates every stage of the Reader's Journey. In the Awareness stage, a compelling opening video communicates who you are and what you offer faster than any written introduction. In the Attention stage, video keeps viewers on the page longer, creates emotional engagement, and makes complex ideas instantly accessible. In the Immersion stage, product demos, testimonials, and walkthroughs build the kind of deep understanding and trust that closes the gap between interest and decision. And in the Action stage, a well-placed video — triggered at exactly the right moment by a button or hotspot — delivers the final persuasive push that turns a viewer into a lead, a customer, or a believer.
