Get to know the Record Tab

The Record Tab is where your Simplebooklet finds its voice. Add audio narration, walk readers through a page on video, upload a pre-recorded clip, or invite a guest to lend their voice — all on a page-by-page basis. It's the fastest way to turn a static document into something that feels guided and personal.

Available on all plans.

How to Open the Record Tab

  1. Open your Dashboard.

  1. On the Simplebooklet you want to work on, click Record.

The Record Tab loads with the toolbar on the left and your current page in the middle. The Edit / Design / Record / Share tabs at the very top are the same on every screen — they're how you switch between building (Edit), styling (Design), narrating (Record), and publishing (Share) your Simplebooklet.

The Left Toolbar

The toolbar on the left holds everything you need to add and manage narration on a page. Flip to the page you want to narrate, then pick a tool:

  • Record — Opens the narration drawer where you record voice, record video, or upload a pre-made file.

  • Invite — Send an invitation link so a teammate, expert, or guest speaker can record narration for you.

  • Settings — Control how your narration plays for readers (autoplay, page-turn behavior, and more).

  • Delete — Remove the narration from the page you're on.

Recording Options

Click Record and a drawer opens with three modes at the top — pick the one that fits the page you're on:

  • Voice — Record audio right in your browser. Tap Start Recording, wait for the countdown, and start talking. Each page can hold up to 120 seconds of voice narration.

  • Video — Record yourself on camera using your device's webcam and mic. Same flow as Voice, just with a preview window. Each page can hold up to 60 seconds of video narration.

  • Upload — Already have an audio or video file ready to go? Click Select File to upload an MP3, WAV, or MP4. Audio files load as voice narration, video files load as video narration. Great for studio-quality voiceovers or polished walkthroughs.

A Select Mic / Camera dropdown sits at the bottom of the drawer so you can swap recording devices anytime.

Helpful Extras

A couple of small features inside the recording drawer make a big difference:

  • Teleprompt — Click the pencil icon in the Teleprompt section to drop in talking points, reminders, or a full script. Only you see it. Drag it close to your webcam for natural eye contact while recording.

  • Headshot — For voice-only narration, click the Headshot button to upload a photo or pick one from your library. It appears beside the audio player on your page so readers can put a face to the voice.

Inviting a Guest Narrator

Don't want to record it yourself? Click Invite in the toolbar to generate a shareable link. You can:

  • Choose whether the guest can narrate Page Only or All Pages.

  • Add instructions or a script in the textbox.

  • Click Create Invite and copy the link.

Your guest doesn't need a Simplebooklet account to record. When they submit, you'll see a notification on the Invite button — switch to the Submissions tab to play their recording, Add to Page to approve it, or send it to the trash.

Narration Settings

Click Settings in the toolbar to fine-tune how narration plays for readers. Toggle any of these on:

  • Autoplay On Page Open — Starts narration the moment a reader lands on the page.

  • Autoplay First View Only — Plays automatically the first time a reader sees that page.

  • Turn Page On Finish — Flips to the next page once narration ends — handy for walkthroughs and guided tours.

Your changes save automatically.

What Your Readers See

Once you save a recording, it appears right on the page when a reader opens it:

  • Voice narration shows up as an audio player (with your headshot beside it, if you've added one).

  • Video narration shows up as an embedded video player they can play, pause, and scrub through.

Either way, it's clean, mobile-friendly, and built into the flipbook itself — no separate window, no extra clicks.

What's next?

Now that you know your way around the Record Tab, here's where to head:

  • Add Voice Narration to Your Simplebooklet Pages — A full walkthrough of recording audio narration.

  • Add Video Narration to Your Simplebooklet Pages — A full walkthrough of recording on camera.

  • Why You Should Be Narrating Your Simplebooklet Pages — Why narration changes how readers experience your content.
