Troubleshooting Audio and Video Narration
Troubleshooting Audio and Video Narration
If you’re unable to record narration or your microphone/camera isn’t working, it’s usually due to browser permissions or device settings. These steps will help you quickly identify and fix common recording issues.
1. Check Your Microphone and Camera Selection
- Open your booklet and go to the Record tab.
- Click Record from the left-hand toolbar to open the narration drawer.
- At the bottom of the drawer, click Select Mic/Camera (or Select Mic Options for voice-only).
- Choose the correct microphone and camera from the dropdown menus.
- Try a short test recording to confirm everything is working.
Most issues are fixed at this step.
2. Browser Permissions Troubleshooting (Chrome)
If your recording buttons are disabled or nothing is captured, Chrome may be blocking access.
Microphone Permissions
- Open Chrome Settings.
- Search for Microphone.
- Click Site Settings → Microphone.
- Make sure simplebooklet.com is listed under Allowed.
- If it’s blocked, switch it to Allow.
- Verify the correct microphone is selected at the top of the page.
Camera Permissions
- Open Chrome Settings.
- Search for Camera.
- Click Site Settings → Camera.
- Make sure simplebooklet.com is listed under Allowed.
- Switch it to Allow if needed.
- Confirm the correct camera is selected at the top of the page.
3. Exclusive Microphone Access (Windows)
Some apps may prevent Simplebooklet from using your microphone.
- Quit apps that may be using your microphone, such as:
- Skype
- Zoom
- Talkdesk
- Teams
- Unplug your headset and plug it back in.
- Try recording again.
- If the issue is fixed, change Windows settings so this doesn’t reoccur:
Disable Exclusive Control (Windows)
- Open the Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Sound.
- Go to the Recording tab.
- Select your microphone → Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab.
- Uncheck: Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device.
- Click Apply.
4. Mac Audio Input Troubleshooting
Macs sometimes use the internal microphone even when a headset is plugged in.
- Go to System Settings → Sound.
- Select the Input tab.
- Check whether your device switches to External Microphone.
- If it stays on Internal Microphone, your headset may not be Mac-compatible.
(USB and USB-C microphones are typically the most reliable on macOS.)
