Troubleshoot Canva Imports in Simplebooklet
If you created your design in Canva and are running into issues after importing it into Simplebooklet—such as blurry pages, missing pages, or videos not playing—this guide walks through the most common causes and the best way to fix them.
Common Issues When Importing From Canva
1. Text or images look blurry
This is the most common concern we see and is usually not related to your plan, page limits, or permanent quality loss.
What’s happening
- Pages can appear slightly blurry while they are still processing
- Preview rendering may look softer than the final result
- On Free plans, the last two pages may briefly appear blurry while the Simplebooklet watermark is applied
- This is temporary and clears automatically once processing finishes
What to do first
Before changing your Canva file, try Simplebooklet’s built-in Troubleshooting tool:
- Open your booklet from the Dashboard
- Click Troubleshooting
- Run the check and allow processing to complete
- Refresh the page after it finishes
In most cases, this resolves the issue without needing to re-export from Canva.
Good to know
- Blurry pages are not caused by page limits
- The Free plan watermark does not permanently affect quality
- If the blur clears on its own, no further action is needed
2. Videos turn into images after import
This is expected behavior when importing Canva designs as PDFs.
Why this happens
- Canva PDF exports flatten all content
- Video elements cannot carry over as playable media in a PDF
How to keep videos playable
- Import your Canva design into Simplebooklet as usual
- Open the booklet in the Edit tab
- Add videos directly using:
- A video file upload, or
- A hosted link (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)
This ensures videos remain interactive in your Simplebooklet.
3. Pages are missing after conversion
This usually happens during the Canva export step.
What’s happening
- Canva does not always export every page by default
How to fix it
- In Canva, go to Share → Download
- Make sure All pages is selected
- Download again
- Re-upload the file to Simplebooklet
4. “Export from Canva failed” error
This error typically originates in Canva, not Simplebooklet.
What to try
- Refresh Canva and try exporting again
- Remove unused or hidden assets to reduce file size
- Export in smaller batches if the document is very large
- Download the PDF to your device first, then upload it manually into Simplebooklet
